Describe a professional goal you have for yourself beyond induction. Why have you identified this as a need or interest? What actions will you take? How will you assess goal attainment?
Two goals that I have set to achieve in the next couple of years, is receiving GATE certification, and getting a Masters degree. GATE certification is great for my professional resume, but it also serves as a tool in my (ever growing) belt. I hope to get into a Masters program that allows me to further explore my passion for Psychology and can directly influence my teaching and student/parent rapport style. I will be taking training throughout the following year for GATE training and signing up for Fall or Spring classes this coming school year.
What actions can you take to remain a connected educator throughout your career?
In order for me to remain a connected educator I will continue to go to district trainings where I will be able to collaborate with my colleagues. I will also try to expand my horizons and go to non-district educator related events and/or join/follow teacher forums and collaborate with teachers around the valley, state, or country.
What can you do personally and professionally, to sustain the energy it takes to be passionate about students, teaching, and learning?
I want to make sure to really let myself have a break when we're on school breaks, HA! Similarly to the above mentioned, I would like to join something like a teacher forum in order to talk and share advice about the classroom.
Include one quote from your reflective coach or administrator about your talents or strengths.
"Ms. Moreno has developed into a skillful teacher. Her strengths are her classroom management, making connections to previous learning, and her use of student interaction. I look forward to continuing to watch Ms. Moreno develop as an educator." ~ Mrs. Fenton (TBP, Assistant Principal)
What advice do you have for new teachers entering the profession?
Don't sweat the small stuff. Let your first year really sink in, your going to remember it for years to come! Especially during the first year, jot down a few notes on the good/fun/positive things you experience; it might be a tough road and its great to reflect on the good times and remind yourself that what you are doing is making a difference. Also don't be afraid to ask for advice from your veteran teachers, TOSA's, and administrators, we are all here for the same purpose and we all want to help our kids succeed through YOU! <3
